A BD Blog

BD Boatworks came to be with performance and fishability as it’s top priority; however, it was never about the fish. It was about the connection to God’s creation, nature, the thrill of the chase, and the stories waiting to be shared. Heading back to the dock with a bucket of memories, knowing you will return to those waters, each trip promising new adventures and the chance to reconnect with the legacy of fishing that has been passed down through generations is what BD Boatworks is all about on a deeper level.

Our Founder

The founder, Blake Delaney, was born in Stuart, FL where he keeps his earliest memories of fishing and going out on the water with his dad, an avid snook fisherman. Blake moved to Tennessee at an early age but has always felt like something was missing. All he wanted to do is get on another inshore boat and explore. As he continued to grow up, the water continued to call him.

Fishing in Tennessee is much different than Florida; however, it was never about the fish. It’s about “getting out there” with the fish just being a bonus. All Blake ever dreamed of was getting to back down the ramp himself with his own truck and with his own boat. He started off in a 14ft jon boat with a small outboard and a trolling motor. This was great, as he felt on top of the world for about a month. He wanted something more though. Something more “fun” with more performance, more water accessibility and room for more family and friends.

Moving up to a 16ft aluminum bass boat with a little larger engine is great, but still not suited for all types of fishing. No poling platform, no flat deck space, and narrow gunnels made it obvious that it was for bass fishing specifically. Exploring new waters and connecting with nature was difficult to do consistently.

Solving the Issue

Having these difficulties could all be put to rest if there was a ride out there for less. Blake decided to do something about his issue, as he thinks others can relate to the monstrosity of inflated boat prices. Blake says that ever since his dad sold his flats boat, he has dreamed of buying one for himself. He could never seem to find the capital.

Problems

Getting married right before going back to college, buying a house while in college, and making sure his family is taken care of first, solving this issue was on the back-burner; however, it is here alas!

Venture

Now, Blake works a full-time corporate job while operating BD Boatworks as the CEO, COO, CFO, and many other titles. He finds nothing but joy in helping others similar to him. Those who want the 6-figure inshore boat that goes 80mph, but just can’t swing it. To the people who want to set the hook on a 40-inch snook hiding deep in the mangroves. To the people who want to on a Texas rig bass in East Tennessee, we all want the same thing. Getting on the water and heading back to the dock after a long day with a bucket full of memories.
