What it’s Good For
The Marsh Monkey 1606 is a slight step up from the 1405 model. It boasts a higher speed with a faster time to plane. The draft is only an inch more, but it goes 10MPG faster. It’s hull is designed to get into the skinniest of backwater but keep you dry as you fly through the intracoastal to get there!
This boat is very, very fuel efficient and the 35GAL tank can last the average angler three weeks with a range of 300 nautical miles! If there was one word to describe the handling, it would be precise. The Marsh Monkey cuts through chop, sticks to the water while cornering, and never skips a beat.
The time to plane on this boat is among the fastest in it’s class at 4 seconds and a top speed of 50MPH. Selecting a different prop could alter those times, making one or the other faster; however, we select the most efficient prop to get the job done!
A Quick Lesson About Time-to-Plane
The phrase “time-to-plane” simply means the amount of time (in seconds) it takes the boat to go from a speed of zero to getting the boat to ride “on top” of the water. If you have ever driven a boat before, you know that when you take off, the bow of the boat will rise until you get going fast enough.
Time-to-plane is essential when fishing in shallow water. When the process takes place, the stern of the boat sinks down deeper into the water. Even a little bit is not good, but once you get onto plane, the draft becomes less and the propellor is sitting higher up in the water column. This is where you want to be, as your propellor is less likely to hit some type of structure.
We look forward to your inquiries and can’t wait to hear how much you love your new ride!
