What it’s Good For
- The Marsh Monkey 1505 is the closest a true technical poling skiff can get to a flats boat. This boat floats shallow but is ready for big water. Its design is to essentially be a baby flats boat but with the draft and pushability of a true technical poling skiff.
- Fishing out of this machine is truly a blast! Best in class HP rating and top speed for a boat of this size comes in handy if you have a long run before you get to the spot.
- Completing an inshore slam has never been easier and more affordable!
A Lesson on Deadrise
The draft of a boat is one of the most important specifications that determines the draft, and ride of your boat. The term “deadrise” is the angle of the bottom of the hull at the transom. A more shallow drafting boat will have a smaller deadrise, while a larger center console will have a larger one.
More angle on the bottom of the hull equates to “cutting” through the water better. In the ocean, often times waves can be big and chop can be rough. This is why boat designed for bigger water have this feature. All of our current models are designed for inshore fishing, where it can be choppy, but never as extreme as the ocean.
We hope you enjoy our little lesson about deadrise and how important it is when designing and buying a boat. We can argue that it is the most essential feature that makes a boat fall into a category. You will never see a flats boat or technical poling skiff with a deadrise of more than fifteen degrees. This is because flats boats are designed for a certain type of fishing. A boat with a deadrise larger than fifteen would be better for bay fishing, despite the length or deck layout.
