A Lesson on Draft

The Sand Flea 1404 is our most shallow drafting hull. It is specifically designed to get into the shallow backwaters where most other boats can not go. Draft is how much water it takes it float the boat essentially. If you take a ruler or tape measure and hold it at the water line, a draft of four inches means that the bottom of the hull is only four inches deep into the water; however, on a larger boat designed for rougher water, the draft would be much higher. Some cruise ships and cargo carriers draft in excess of twenty feet!

To compare, the smaller the deadrise, the smaller the draft. We wanted to offer a model with a draft that would shock the market and make anglers go into a frenzy like fish when it’s dinner time.
